What’s That Glow Over West Texas?

Why it’s the radioactive waste being dumped in West Texas that Republicans in hotly contested races this year including Betty Brown (R-Terrell), John Davis (R-Houston), Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston), Myra Crownover (R-Denton), and Linda Harper Brown (R-Irving) voted for back during the 78th Texas Legislature in 2003 when they passed House Bill 1567 which allowed for the disposal of “low-level” radioactive waste from other states right here in Texas.

That glow was nothing like the glow in their eyes as they held out their hands to receive cash from Harold Simmons, the corporate raider who purchased Waste Control–a company that has seen a lot of benefit from HB 1567. Oh and you can bet your sweet ass that Tom Craddick has taken money from Old Green Glow Simmons as well.

Rep. John Davis(R TX-HD129) has taken $4,000 from Simmons just since 2006.

Rep. Betty Brown (R TX-HD4)has taken $6,000 from Simmons since 2001.

Harper-Brown and Crownover have also taken Simmons’ cash. So has Bohac.

It’s time to get rid of the Republicans in the Ledge who only want the glow of green in their hands and could care less about the possible contamination of Texas.

Today, three commissioners appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry will decide whether or not to approve a license for a huge radioactive waste dump in West Texas that the state’s environmental experts have already said will likely contaminate groundwater.
