John Edwards Endorses Barack Obama

Posted on 05/15/2008. Filed under: barack obama, john edwards, presidential elections 2008 |

This evening in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sen. John Edwards officially endorsed Barack Obama. The huge crowd that had been cheering for Barack Obama went nuts cheering for John Edwards when he was introduced.

Edwards started his speech by speaking about Hillary Clinton and all she has done for this country and Americans during her campaign and her life in public service. At first the crowd was not receptive but as they listened they realized he was speaking the truth. We might like the tone of her campaign in the last few weeks but Hillary has done some great work for America and Americans and does deserve our respect.

John Edwards then went on to talk about ending poverty in America, insuring all Americans, offering education and job opportunities to Americans and uniting not only the Democratic Party but America to make this a better country for all. He said the man to lead us as the Next President of the United States was Barack Obama!!!!

Happy New Years From Doing My Part For The Left!!!

Happy New Years From Doing My Part For The Left!!!

Happy New Years 2008!!! podcast

While everyone is thinking about New Years resolutions, I am thinking about the changes we need in 2008. Yes, I will be making some personal changes but I will also be helping to make changes in Texas and the United States. I will be doing this by being even more active in getting Great Candidates elected. We need new leadership that actually care about People in office and the way to do that is VOTE!!!

Here in Texas we have several interesting races heating up even during the primary season. One of those races if the race for US Senate from Texas. We have Rick Noriega who is the grass roots candidate. Rick was drafted by the people and decided to run. The bloggers and progressives in the state have been doing everything possible to make this a successful campaign and pave the way to getting rid of John Cornyn in Washington. You can join Team Noriega and make a donation to help elect this great man to the US Senate.

Noriega Express

Some other candidates have filed in Texas but are sadly lacking in what it takes to be a Senator much less a leader. We have Gene Kelly- not the dead dance, but the perennial candidate who pays his filing fee just to see his name on a ballot and screw the Texas Democratic Party. I don’t know who pissed him off in the past but it is time for this old buzzard to quit screwing Texas. His antics cost the Barbara Radnofsky campaign an additional 8,000 dollars in the last election cycle when he caused a run off. This does not include the money the Democratic Party had to pay out to run an additional election.

We also have Ray McMurrey who tries to claim that he is a grass roots candidate. Nothing could be further from the truth. He planned to run as an independent and then changed his mind. He welcomed the dead dancer to the primary. Seems like if you are going to be a Democratic candidate for US Senate you would do a little home work about the history of the last few races. McMurrey is a teacher who needs to do his homework. Maybe Kelly and McMurrey can open a dance studio since it seems they have no clue about politics and what Texas needs.

You might have heard about the Craddick Dems who support Tom Craddick and his dictatorial rule of the Texas Legislature. Well, Miss Dawwna Dukes has drawn a primary opponent who is anything but a Craddick Dem. Brian Thompson is a true Progressive who cares about the people in his East Austin district, Texas and will be a welcome addition to the Texas Legislature!!! Make a donation to help this impressive young man become the second openly gay member ever of the Texas Legislature!!!

Listen to the rest of the show to hear about some of the other great candidates and remember to show them some love!!!!

Rick Noriega, Dan Grant and John Edwards 3 Great Democrats To Get Elected

The Latest Podcast from Doing My Part For The Left

Enjoy! — refinish69

I am sick and tired of being told I should vote for someone just because they have a D in front of their name. I refuse to vote for Blue Dog Democrats who do not represent me. If I wanted Republican Lite, I would vote Republican. I want Liberal Democrats who believe in the people of this country and are willing to stand up for Equal Rights for all Americans.

Just look what happened this week in Congress when the wimps in the Democratic Party had to remove gender identification from Employment Non-Discrimination Act. They didn’t have the votes to pass it with the language left in because of so many Blue Dog(Conservative) Democrats who are willing to throw the Transgender Community under the bus. Well, I am sick and tired of this attitude and I say we elect Democrats with some balls and core values that represent Democratic Core Values!!!

In Texas we have a primary race heating up for the US Senate Race. You can choice ANTI-CHOICE Candidate Mikal Watts whose only claim to electablility so far is how much money he can lend his campaign or you can chose a True Texas Leader- Rick Noriega.

Rick has served 5 terms in the Texas Legislature and has a 100% rating from NARAL and Planned Parenthood. He has also stood up for the GLBT Community in Texas every time a vote has come up. This is the type of Leader we need in D. C. Rick has been endorsed by Votevets.org as well as Democracy for Texas. These are just a few of the great endorsements he has received so far.

Dan Grant is another great Texan running for US Congress in Texas Congressional District 10.

DAN GRANT FOR CONGRESS
A Fresh Start in a New Direction

Foreign policy expert Dan Grant has served in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, and Kosovo as a civilian. Now he’s offering the families and small businesses of District 10 a fresh start and a new direction in Congress.

“We need a positive change in Washington to restore balance, integrity, and mainstream values to our representation in the corridors of Congress,” Grant says. “Let’s honor tradition but not be tied to it, learn from the past but not live in it, renew our faith in the future — and have the courage to step up and shape it.”

Grant returned this year to his hometown of Austin after serving as part of the international team in Baghdad. He is calling for positive change to improve national security, move toward energy independence, reduce the national debt, and provide a level playing field for middle-class families who work hard and play by the rules.

Grant has an unusually strong grounding in small-d democracy and foreign affairs. In Iraq, his duties included helping the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq prepare and conduct the historic elections of 2005. He consulted with international military forces and local leaders in Basra, Fallujah, and Mosul.

John Edwards is the man to lead America in a new direction and make this country the great county it should be. He is not afraid to speak out a say what needs to be done or that the work will be tough and take all Americans working together to make this change. This is so refreshing considering the platitudes and non statements we are receiving from the other candidates. Let’s elect a True Leader as President instead of continuing the Clinton Dynasty which brought us NAFTA or electing the King of Platitudes- Obama.

John Edwards For President in 2008

Posted on 09/04/2007. Filed under: edwards for president. 2008 elections, john edwards, Presidential elections |

Many people ask why I am supporting John Edwards for president in 2008. After doing my research on the different candidates, John was clearly the one who has a vision for America that resonates with me and my beliefs. He recognizes the problems that face America and Americans as we try and rebuild our country after the devastation brought about by the Bush Regime. He has laid out carefully thought out plans of ways to improve the World not only for Democrats but for all people. John Edwards is the man who can take a shattered and divided country and bring the American people back together to work for the common good of All People.

Edwards was the first candidate to lay out a detailed Health Care Plan. No half steps or saying wait till I am elected to a second term like some of his opponents in Democratic Primary.

“More than any of the presidential candidates, John Edwards has come up with a specific and plausible plan that provides for health care coverage for all Americans.”

Nicholas Kristof
The New York Times

Under the Edwards Plan:

* Families without insurance will get coverage at an affordable price.
* Families with insurance will pay less and get more security and choices.
* Businesses and other employers will find it cheaper and easier to insure their workers.

The Edwards Plan achieves universal coverage by:

* Requiring businesses and other employers to either cover their employees or help finance their health insurance.
* Making insurance affordable by creating new tax credits, expanding Medicaid and SCHIP, reforming insurance laws, and taking innovative steps to contain health care costs.
* Creating regional “Health Care Markets” to let every American share the bargaining power to purchase an affordable, high-quality health plan, increase choices among insurance plans, and cut costs for businesses offering insurance.
* Once these steps have been taken, requiring all American residents to get insurance.

Securing universal healthcare for every American will require the active involvement of millions of Americans.

As an American without health insurance of any kind, I am thrilled we have a candidate who is willing to take on the insurance and drug companies to bring about a change and help America become a healthy nation again.

“Edwards has already done America a great service by running for President and putting the issue of poverty where it belongs: front and center… Edwards is doing what every Democratic presidential candidate ought to be doing – talking about ways to eliminate desperate poverty from our midst once and for all.”

– Errol Louis
New York Daily News

In the richest land in the world it is shameful that so many people live in abject poverty but so many politicians are willing to ignore the fact and only court the fat cats who can enrich their war chests. Edwards remembers where he came from and what it means to work hard and thinks every American should have the same chance to better their life.

“Restoring our moral authority means leading by example and making clear that the hard challenges don’t frighten us. There is no better opportunity than the challenge of poverty – the great moral issue of our time.” — John Edwards

In a speech at the National Press Club, former Sen. John Edwards called poverty “the great moral issue of our time” and challenged our country to cut it by a third in a decade and end it within 30 years. To get there, he has proposed major new initiatives to reward work, break up high-poverty neighborhoods, help families save, and encourage families to act responsibly. In his vision of a “Working Society,” everyone who is able to work will be expected to work and rewarded for working. Edwards also called on communities to discourage the reckless behavior that threatens the future of many young people.

End Poverty by 2036: Edwards believes that ending poverty should be a goal our nation actively pursues. A national goal will rally support for the cause and help us measure our progress. In 1999, Tony Blair announced a 20-year goal to end child poverty in Great Britain and he has already reduced child poverty by 17 percent. Today, Edwards called for a national effort to:

* Cut poverty by one third within a decade, lifting 12 million Americans out of poverty by 2016.
* End poverty within 30 years, lifting 37 million Americans out of poverty by 2036. [Census Bureau, 2007]

Reform the Poverty Measure: The poverty measure excludes necessities like taxes, health care, child care and transportation. It also fails to count some forms of aid including tax credits, food stamps, Medicaid, and subsidized housing. The National Academy of Science has recommended improvements that would increase the count of people in poverty by more than 1 million. Edwards believes we need to measure poverty honestly, evaluate our performance, and hold politicians accountable for policies that change the number of people suffering hardship. He supports revisions along the lines recommended by NAS. [Census Bureau, 2005; NAS, 1995]

The Rights Of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Americans

“LGBT Americans are entitled to equal respect and dignity under our laws. Discrimination is morally wrong. All Americans should have the same freedoms and the same responsibilities.” — John Edwards

Equal Rights for Same-Sex Couples

Edwards believes that all couples in committed, long-term relationships should have the same rights, benefits, and responsibilities, whether they are straight couples or same-sex couples. He supports civil unions to guarantee gay and lesbian couples the same rights as straight couples, including inheritance rights, hospital visitation rights, equal pension and health care benefits, and all of the 1,100 other legal protections government affords married couples. Edwards supports the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. He also believes same-sex families should be treated in the same manner as other families by our immigration laws. Edwards believes the right president could lead the country toward consensus around equal rights and benefits for all couples in committed, long-term relationships and he opposes divisive Constitutional amendments to ban same-sex marriages.
Workplace Discrimination

Workers should be judged by the quality of their performance, not their sexual orientation or gender identity. While in the Senate, Edwards cosponsored the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. He also believes that stronger enforcement is necessary to prevent employment discrimination by federal agencies.
Military Service

Edwards opposes the current “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy on gays and lesbians serving in our military. The military ought to treat all service members equally and in a way that promotes national security, without regard to their sexual orientation.
Adoption

Edwards believes that gay and lesbian parents should be able to adopt children just like any other parents. There are over 120,000 children waiting for homes in our nation’s foster care system. Adoption placements should be decided by judges and adoption agencies based upon the best interests of the children. Both members of a same-sex couple raising children together should be able to form a legal relationship with their children.
Hate Crimes

Everyone is entitled to live in dignity without fear of violence. We should strengthen the ability of law enforcement to investigate and prosecute hate crimes based on race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or gender identity. While in the Senate, Edwards cosponsored legislation to give law enforcement agencies the tools they need to investigate and prosecute hate crimes.
HIV and AIDS

There is an urgent need for more resources in the fight against HIV/AIDS, both domestically and internationally. As a member of the U.S. Senate, Edwards was proud to fight for greater funding for the battle against HIV/AIDS, and co-sponsored the Ryan White CARE Act. As president, Edwards will continue the fight against HIV/AIDS through funding for this program, Medicaid, and other critical programs.

While John does not support Gay Marriage he has said he sees it coming in his daughters life time. I think he is closer to supporting it than any of the other candidates but we all realize that if he were to announce he supported it 100% at this time he would not be electable. Times are changing and changing fast but The Republican Hate Machine has done too good a job of demonizing Gays and Lesbians for attitudes to change that fast. John has been the first candidate to speak out on GLBT issues consistently and clearly from day one of his campaign. I do not fear the community being thrown under the bus by him once our money and our votes are in as has been the case so many times in the past. His wonderful wife, Elizabeth, has come out in support of gay marriage and as his chief advisor and confidant, I am sure she will help John come around to a better stance in time.

You can read more about John’s stances on major issues. The ones I have listed are just the tip of the iceberg of plans he has laid out to help not only Americans but all people of the world.

John Edwards is the candidate who can lead America back from the abyss and not only restore America after the tragic mishandling of the Republicans but also move us forward in a direction America has not seen or even dreamed of in many years. The time is now!!! Tomorrow Begins Today and we as Americans need John Edwards as President not only to lead but work along side us to create a better America for All Americans!!!

MTV Logo and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation are about to make history.

On August 9, we’ll be co-hosting the first ever televised presidential forum dedicated solely to questions about GLBT issues – and I’m thrilled to announce that I will join singer Melissa Etheridge and esteemed journalist Jonathan Capehart as panelists!

I’ll be there representing you so I need your help.

I received this email and thought it needed to be shared.

Click here to tell me what you want to hear by submitting your questions for the candidates!

This forum is really exciting for me because you and I will have the opportunity to ask the leading Democratic presidential candidates their stance on issues most important to our community.

Want to know what Senator Clinton really thinks of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?” Want to hear Senator Obama’s thoughts on Hate Crimes legislation, or what Senator Edwards would do to address GLBT workplace discrimination? This is your chance.

We’ll have their undivided attention for two hours, so submit your questions today!

This historic two-hour forum, moderated by Margaret Carlson, will be broadcast live on the Logo network and online at the Logo website on Thursday, Aug. 9, starting at 9 p.m. EST.

Confirmed candidates now include:

* Hillary Clinton,
* Christopher Dodd,
* John Edwards,
* Mike Gravel,
* Dennis Kucinich,
* Barack Obama, and
* Bill Richardson.

This is our best chance to hear where these candidates stand on GLBT issues. The deadline for submissions is August 1st, so speak up today!

This forum is a testament to the hard work we’ve done together to keep GLBT issues at the forefront of American politics. Be sure to tune in on August 9. I look forward to your questions and to hearing the candidates’ responses.

To find out how to get Logo, click here or watch the forum live on Logo’s website.

Thank you for all you do.

Warmly,
Joe Solmonese

President

This is a historic event in GLBT History. I do not think we will get any surprise answers but I am thrilled that for once they are not just asking for the GLBT Community’s money and vote and showing no respect at all.

For the first time in the history of presidential campaigns, the Democratic candidates will hold a debate on GLBT issues. This is a historic moment in politics as well as the Equal Rights Movement. I congratulate the organizers and the candidates who are courageous enough to address these vital issues.
