Mark your Calendars for Saturday July 19th 7:00PM to 10:00PM.  As the Netroots Nation conference winds to a close Saturday evening, come by Bay6 Studios in East Austin:

Kick Back and Kick it Up before We Kick ‘Em Out!

Sponsored and hosted by Texas Kaos and Bay6 Gallery.  Featuring music, food, drink and  a group art exhibition of work by Texas artists with a political theme titled:

“Blogging from the Right Side of the Brain.”

In honor of all of the effort that has been going on around Texas Kaos over the last couple of years Bay6 Studios has decided to host a party to say thank you for all of the good work you have done.  Please accept this as your personal invitation to attend.  I would like to also personally extend an invitation out there to any artist’s, lurking or not, to submit pieces for consideration in the show.  I have always been fascinated by left brain/right brain thinking (as opposed to GOP no brain thinking!) and hope this event turns into a good mix between the bloggers and artists.  We have some great art work lined up for the event already and will make room for more if you are so inclined.

This is an out of pocket expense for Bay6, our way of saying thank you to people like Krazypuppy, Boadicea, and all of you really who make this a stimulating place to be.  We will be passing the boot at the event and all proceeds will go to ActBlue, editors choice (sounds like a good opportunity for a poll).

We are not looking for any cash to put the event on, but if you are in the Austin area and would like to participate in catering, food, drink or music, we would appreciate any and all donations to the effort.  If you would like to lend a hand in putting the event together, volunteering at the event that would be helpful also.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

The Cheese Tray Awards

Posted on 05/12/2008. Filed under: 2008 Texas Primary, Betty Richie, Boyd Richie, Hillary Clinton, LULAC, Texas Democratic Convention, Texas Democratic Party, Texas Democratic Party Chairperson, Texas One Step, Texas Two-Step |

So you are wondering what the Cheese Tray Awards are? It is very simple. One of my favorite sayings is “Do you want some cheese to go with that whine?” I plan to start awarding the Cheese Tray Awards to the biggest whiners in politics and boy do we have a lot of them today.

Let me start with the people behind the resolution to do away with the Texas Two Step. They do not want to go through standard procedures of having their resolution go to the resolution committee at the Texas Democratic State Convention but want it brought to the floor immediately. This nothing more than whining from the Hillary camp yet again that they lost the caucus part of the Texas Two Step and a slap in the face to every Democratic Activist that busted their butts to get people to attend the precinct caucuses and sign in for their candidate.

The email I received about this fired me up enough that I started a Face Book group called I Love the Texas Two Step and created a design for the group.

I Love the Texas Two Step

So the First Cheese Tray Award is presented to the Texas One Step Resolution Whiners!!!

The next group of whiners that really chap my butt are the ones calling for someone- anyone to run against Boyd Richie as Chair of the Texas Democratic Party. Everyone, including Boyd Richie and his wonderful wife Betty, know that I supported Glen Maxey in 2006 in the Chairperson race. I have since then gotten to know Boyd and his wife and have seen the incredible work he has done as our party chairperson and the work Betty has done right by his side. They have traveled all over the state to attend events. Boyd has reached out to the blogging community and even attended the 5 anniversary celebration for Burnt Orange Report. This is not something you would expect from a Party Chairperson in Texas or at least none of the ones we had in the past. The last the the Texas Democratic Party needs in the 2008 election cycle is a change in leadership especially when we have a great Party Chairperson in place.

Boyd Richie For Party Chairperson

So the Second Cheese Tray Award is presented to the Whiners trying to replace a Boyd Richie!!!

Another group that has earned a Cheese Tray Award is LULAC. Although they have done great work in the past, they have now become the official tool of the Hillary Campaign and have lost their frigging minds. They are suing the Texas Democratic Party and trying to stop the Texas Democratic Convention because they think Delegates should be awarded based on some formula that has nothing with actually voting. Delegates in Texas are awarded based on voter turn out in gubernatorial elections. You vote, you get delegates. You stay home or worse yet have your local mayors endorse a candidate as bad as Gov. Goodhair, you don’t get delegates. It’s really simple and straight forward.

For being total tools of the Hillary Campaign, LULAC gets the Third Cheese Tray Award.

The final Cheese Tray Award goes to the Hillary Clinton campaign and her die hard supporters. Hillary has lost the popular vote, has lost the delegate count including the super delegates and even run the campaign into debt to the tune of 20 million dollars. Her die hard supporters have been sending out emails using the same tactics the Republicans have been using and hinting that Barack Obama is a Muslim and not patriotic. How tacky. Bad enough that Hillary is playing the race card and seems to be running McCain’s campaign for him as she has clearly lost the nomination. To have her henchman, Paul Begala, say that the Obama Coalition is nothing but African Americans and and Eggheads and that blue color voters are what is needed to win the general. I guess Paul doesn’t realize that many of the blue collar works in America are intelligent and African American. I guess one thing Hillary will not tell you is that her double digit win in Ohio actually turns out not to be a double digit win but a single digit win. Turns out she only won Ohio by slightly less than 9%, rather than clearing 10%.

For all the grief, lies and divisiveness of the Hillary Campaign and her die hard supporters, I award them the Triple Cheese Tray Award.

It’s Tuesday (and primary day to be exact), and that means it is time for another Texas Progressive Alliance Blog Round-Up. This week’s round-up is compiled by Vince from Capitol Annex.

This election cycle is all about the change America so desperately needs. TXsharon at Bluedaze implores: Texans, don’t settle for more of the same!

Many wonderful things happened at McBlogger this week, from McBlogger’s discovery of a scrumptious new foodstuff, to Hillary’s decision to co-sponsor a bill turning back the privatization of our military. Finally, we take a look at Cornyn’s pathetic attempt to call out his better, Lt.Col. Rick Noriega.

It’s 3 AM and Hillary Seems Desperate

Posted on 03/02/2008. Filed under: 2008 Texas Primary, Hillary Clinton, Texas Precinct Conventions. |

Hillary Clinton’s campaign in Texas and Ohio is taking on a note of desperation that makes Hillary seem less and less Presidential and more and more out to win at all cost-even denying Texas Voters their right to a clear vote in the Texas Precinct Caucuses. Clinton’s campaign has told her supporters in Texas to take control of the precinct convention and refuse to let supporters of any other candidate hold any position of authority. What a way to show how you are willing to work with others. Her campaign has even threatened to sue the Texas Democratic Party of the Precinct Conventions even though Former President Bill Clinton won the majority of delegates in the Texas Precinct conventions in 1992 and 1996.

Hillary’s 3AM commercial is a direct rip off of John McCain’s famous 3AM comercial and is not short of scare tactics.

Maybe it is 3AM and Hillary needs to drop out of the race for the good of the Country and the good of the Democratic Partt since she has decided winning at any cost is more important than working with the people of the Great State of Texas. This is not another notch in a bed post or another line on a resume. This election is about a Leader who can lead America- not break the rules to get what they want.

Glen Maxey for Travis County Assessor-Collector

Posted on 02/28/2008. Filed under: 2008 Texas Primary, Glen Macey, Nelda Wells spears, Tracis County, Travis county tax assessor, Voter ID, Voter Suppression |

Doing My Part for the Left is proud to endorse Glen Maxey for Travis County Tax Assessor. This job is about a lot more than collecting taxes and Glen is the man to represent the best of Travis County. This office is also involved in voter registration as one of it’s primary functions.

I moved to Texas in 2003 and when I attended a democratic club meeting it was Glen Maxey who informed me I could become a deputy voter registrar. He was the man who swore in hundreds of new voter registrars(with the help of Bruce Elfant) and instructed us on what needed to be done to make sure the registrations were done correctly.

Glen has been instrumental in getting young and old people alike involved in the process of registering voters and making sure that the people of Travis County know what is going on in their district but in the Legislature and in many other political races through out Texas.

I have attended so many political club and party meetings since I have moved to Texas that I have lost count of all of them but I know I have seen Glen Maxey at most of them. He was one of the people responsible for bringing Democracy for America to Austin in 2005.

Until this primary season, I have never seen Nelda Wells Spears at a single event. The fact that she did not think it important enough to go to the legislature and speak out against the Republican bills calling for Voter ID’s says quite a lot. Who needs an elected official who agree with the Republicans that poor and senior voters should be denied their right to vote? The incompetence of her office in purging many voters from the active voter file 1 month after they voted is not something to say “Oh, well” about.

Please join me and many others in Travis County and

Vote for Glen Maxey for Travis County Tax Assessor

To Supporters of Both Obama and Clinton…GROW UP!!!

Posted on 02/28/2008. Filed under: 2008 Texas Primary, barack obama, democrats, Hillary Clinton, presidential election 2008 |

I am so glad that Texans will have a say in who is selected as the next presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. I am also thrilled to see the excitement in each of the campaigns and in voters through out the great state of Texas. What I am not excited about is the childish and stupid behavior in both camps from volunteers or field representatives who have invaded Texas from other states.

The rumor mill is working over time and it is time to put a stop to it!!! I have heard from friends supporting both candidates that they have been told that the campaign plans to flood the precinct caucuses with people who did not even vote in the precinct. I have heard of people supposedly planning floor fights already from both camps and we all know this is just a bunch of crap trying to divide Texas!!!

Texans are too smart to let anyone from Texas or from without to pit us against one another. This election year is exciting and means a lot but once the nominee is selected we have to bust our collective butts to elect a Democratic President, a Democratic US Senator, more Democratic US Representatives, take back control of the Texas Legislature and many other offices through out each county and district.

We all know how the national party has always treated Texas. They take our money and our votes and disappear. Hopefully, that will not be the case after this primary but you never know. On the morning of March 5th, 2008, Texas Democrats must pull together to elect a great slate of candidates and take Texas back from the thieves, thugs, and nut cases who took over Texas and used it as a stepping stone to take over the nation.

Support your favorite 100% but stop the negativity and when you hear or see it, tell the person spreading the lies and bullshit to shut the fuck up!!!

This is a time for Texans to stand Proud and fight for what they believe is right. We do not need any back stabbing, swift boating, or hate mongering in the Democratic Primary. We will have enough of that from the Repugnant Party as we head towards November.

I am calling on all Progressives, Liberals and Democrats to stop the bickering and snide comments and let us move together to make this a better world for All People!!!!!!!!!!!!
